For this tutorial you will need
Paint Shop Pro
Texture - Mosaic Tiles
I have searched everywhere for this filter with no luck so you can download the pattern fill Here
Xero - Porcelain
Available here in Filter Set 1.
Filters Unlimited 2 - Grey Scale - optional.
Eye Candy 4000 - Gradient Glow and HSB Noise
Gear Preset Shapes
These should come with PSP but I have supplied the PSP 9 shapes which you can download Here if you don't have it.
Font Of Your Choice
I used Ajile which you can find Here.
A Tube of your choice
I used the wonderful artwork of Michael Landefeld. His art is used under license, and can be purchased from CILM.
Ok we are ready to start.
REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN
You can drag this arrow down the page with you to keep your place in the tut.
Script provided by Dynamic Drive.
Step 1:
Open a new image 600 x 600 pixels.
Although this may be too big for the finished tag you have in mind you can always resize it when we've finished.
I always find it better to start this size, as you have more space to work in.
Rename this layer - Background
Copy the tube you want to use and paste it as a new layer on your canvas.
Add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 50
Blur = 5
Colour = Black
Rename this layer - Tube.
Click on your Background layer to activate it.
Select your Preset Shapes tool set to Circle with the following settings:
Line Style: Solid - Line Width: 4 - Foreground: A colour from your tube - Background: Null
Draw out a circle behind your tube. The size will depend on your chosen tube.
Go to Objects - Align - Center in Canvas.
In the Layer Palette right click this layer and convert it to a raster layer and rename Circle 1.
To fill in the circle I used a supplied close-up of the tube, though you could always use a pattern of choice or even a copyright safe photo.
Using your Magic Wand click inside the circle and go to Selections - Modify - Expand: 2.
Copy your chosen image and paste as a new layer.
Go to Selections - Invert. Now press Delete on the keyboard.
Go to Selections - Select None and move the image layer below the Circle 1 layer.
Rename this layer - Image.
Once done go back to the circle outline and add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 50
Blur = 5
Colour = Black
Repeat Drop Shadow.
Step 2:
Click on the background layer to activate it.
Activate your Preset Shapes tool and select Gear 3 with the following settings:
Line Style: Solid - Line Width: 4 - Foreground: A Medium colour from your tube - Background: Null
While holding down your Shift key to make the shape equally round draw it out so that just the individual points are visible behind the circle with little square bits surrounding the circle shape.
Go to Objects - Align - Center in Canvas.
Once you are happy with the positioning convert this layer to a raster layer and rename this layer Gear 3.
Click on the Background layer to activate it.
Activate your Preset Shapes and select Gear 5 with the same settings we just used.
While holding down the Shift key draw it out to the desired position. It should be slightly bigger than Gear 3 - use my tag as a guide.
Convert to a raster layer and rename this layer Gear 5.
Apply your Eye Candy 4000 Gradient Glow to Gear 5 layer with the following settings:
Glow Width: 3 - Soft Corners: 25 - Overall Opacity: 100.
Click on the colour tab and select Fluorescent Tubing from the Drop Down list and click OK.
Step 3:
Click on Gear 3 layer to activate it.
Click inside the shape with your Magic Wand.
Go to Selections - Modify - Expand: 2.
I used the close-up tube again to fill this, though it's totally up to you what image you use, whatever looks best! Experiment!
Go to Selections - Invert then press Delete on the keyboard.
Rename this layer - Image 2 and move beneath your Gear 3 layer in the layer palette.
Click on Gear 3 layer to activate it and add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 50
Blur = 5
Colour = Black
Click on Gear 5 layer to activate it.
Click inside the shape with your Magic Wand.
Go to Selections - Modify - Expand: 3.
If you have the texture filter do the steps below, if not then add a new raster layer and set your Foreground to MosaicTilesEffect.jpg and fill the selection.
Move the fill layer beneath the Gear 5 layer and rename Texture.
If you have the texture filter add a new Raster layer and flood fill with white.
Rename this layer Texture and move it beneath Gear 5 layer in the layer palette.
On the Texture layer go to Effects - Plugins - Texture - Mosaic Glass with the settings shown below.
Tile Size:12 - Grout Width:3 - Lighten Grout:7
Whilst still on that layer apply Eye Candy 4000 HSB Noise with the settings shown below.
Hue Variation: 25 - Saturation Variation: 30 - Brightness Variation: 40 - Opacity Variation: 0 - Lump Width: 80.82 - Lump Height: 33.22 - Pattern: Smooth Lumps - Seamless Tile: Ticked.
Go to Selections - Select None.
Click on Gear 5 layer to activate it and add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 50
Blur = 5
Colour = Black
Repeat Drop Shadow.
Step 4:
This next part is optional.
Click on the Image layer to activate it.
Apply Filters Unlimited 2 with the following settings:
Colour Filters: Greyscale - Red, Green and Blue settings: All at 128. Click on apply.
If you don't have Filters Unlimited you Adjust the Hue and Saturation setting both on 0 to greyscale.
Whilst still on this layer use Filters Unlimited 2 again but this time use the Paper Textures option with the following settings:
Canvas: Fine - Intensity: 56 - Lightness: 87.
Step 5:
Click your background layer to activate.
Select your Preset Shapes tool set to Ellipse with the following settings.
Foreground: a colour from your tube - Background: Null - Line Width: 3
Draw out a circle big enough so you can just see the outline of the Ellipse in between the Gear shape.
Once you are happy with the size go to Objects - align - Center in Canvas and convert to a raster layer.
Rename this layer Circle 2.
With your Magic Wand click inside the Ellipse.
Go to Selections - Modify - Expand: 2.
Copy an image of your choice and paste as a new layer.
Go to Selections - Invert then press Delete on the keyboard.
Rename this layer Image 3 and move the image layer below the ellipse layer.
Go to Selections - Select None.
Using your Ellipse Preset again change the foreground to a Metallic Silver Gradient - Background: Null - Line Width: 3.
Draw out the Ellipse just slightly larger than the previous one.
Once happy with the size go to Objects - Align - Center in Canvas and convert to raster layer.
Rename Circle 3 and add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 0
Horizontal = 0
Opacity = 80
Blur = 10
Colour = Black
Click on Circle 1 layer to activate it and draw out an Ellipse using the same settings we just used but make it slightly smaller than the Circle 1 circle.
Once happy with the size convert to a raster layer and rename Circle 4.
Add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 50
Blur = 5
Colour = Black
Repeat Drop Shadow.
Step 6:
Click on the top layer - Tube - to activate it.
To finish off the design of the tag, I put a few Metallic Silver studs around the edge.
Select the Preset Shapes tool set to Ellipse with the following settings:
Line Width: Null - Foreground: Null - Background: Metallic Silver Gradient - Style: Radial.
Draw out a small stud and position. see my tag as a guide. Instead of doing all seperate ones just duplicate and move to the desired positions.
Add the following Drop Shadow
Vertical = 2
Horizontal = 2
Opacity = 50
Blur = 5
Colour = Black
If you are going to resize your image do it now.
Add all the appropriate copyright details and your name, crop to size and you're finished!
Save the finished tag.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
The font I used in the tag below is Gear Box which you can get Here.
